A thorough examination resulted in no particular problems being found, so after a few days, the hospital discharged me.

When I got back home, I noticed the calendar’s page had been changed to April.

On the next day, Momo-chan and her parents came to visit us.

She apologized to me while crying in our living room.

“I’m really sorry, I was too careless… I was so happy from all the attention I got after uploading Natsuhara’s pictures… That man who beat Yuuma-kun up was someone that I knew from the internet… I thought he was a kind person who has the same interest in photography like me… I never expected that he was such a scary person…”

Her parents also bowed to us deeply.

“Please forgive us, Yuuma-kun. Our daughter put you in that dangerous situation, yet you stepped forward to protect her. Thank you very much… You really are an amazing young man…”

Momo-chan’s parents tried to give us money for my treatment, but my parents rejected it. They said that knowing Momo-chan was okay was enough for them.

I was proud of them. I could say with confidence that if someone were to admire me for my actions, my parents should take the credit for it because they were the ones who made me into the person I was.

Then, the day after Momo-chan came to apologize to me.

Suzuno and her parents showed up at our doorsteps.

I haven’t seen her mother since the last time we met back when I was in middle school, and it was the first time I’ve ever met her father.

They never showed up in any of the school events, not even at her graduation. Like her mother, her father looked young.

Both of them, dressed neatly in their suits, bowed their heads at the entrance to our house.

Her mother didn’t even look in my direction, probably still holding a grudge over the way I talked to her when we met for the first time.

“My daughter is very much indebted to your son. Please accept our gratitude.”

When my mother invited them into our house, they just shook their heads before saying those polite words in a curt tone.

Behind them, Suzuno was nodding her head.

Seeing her in such a gloomy state made me feel sad.

We survived. There was nothing to be afraid of anymore. I wanted to share my happiness with her over this fact.

“Now, please excuse us.”

As Suzuno’s parents were about to leave, my father stepped forward.

“If it’s okay, can we talk a little bit more with your daughter? Our son is indebted to her.”

All eyes were on Suzuno. She was surprised by all the attention, but she managed to nod her head.

“Since she’s okay with it, I’ll leave my daughter in your care…”

After saying that, without dropping their unfriendly attitude, the Natsuhara couple left the Yamaoka’s Residence.
