- Chapter 14 - Test Return
It’s the week after I got tangled up with the well-known Takanishi sisters. On Monday morning, I had arrived with my mind prepared for the unavoidable questioning. However, the atmosphere was so normal that it was hard to believe.
When mobs like me saw the two sisters standing side by side, I wondered if there would be any more strange understandings due to the gap between me and the Takanishi sisters.
Or maybe everyone was too busy worrying about the test return today.
When I mentioned my thought process to Akito, he replied in disgust.
“No, you… Takanishi has been working hard to ease the uproar.”
“Eh? Is that really the case?”
“You really… are oblivious. Is that why you’re acting like that?”
There’s no denying it.
In this regard, Aisa is more caring than one might think… No, it’s not exactly unexpected. In fact, everyone else doesn’t think this way, which is probably why so many people are gathered around her.
The only reason I chided Manami for her actions on my way home was to protect myself…
“She’s doing a good job of spreading the word about the tutoring situation you guys have, while also politely adding that your parents just get along with each other.”
“So that’s what she’s been doing…”
“If it’s what the idol says, then they all went along with it because no one wants to see the Idol and Goddess of Victory angry.”
I decided to at least give Aisa a present the next time I went over to her house to tutor them.
I’m sure she will brush it off like, “I didn’t do it for you.” I think it was more for the reason that it would be bad for Aisa to have a strange rumor about her, much less than worrying about me.
Still, I’ll thank her for saving me.
“But what’s really going on?”
“‘What?’ Your relationship with the Takanishi sisters! Which one are you going after?”
“Don’t worry, it’s neither.”
“Is it okay if I reach out to them then?”
I thought for a while when Akito said that. He’s popular. He lives a unique life, though a little out of the center of the class that contains Aisa and the other popular kids, but that’s not exactly a bad thing.
It’s not a bad balance, is it?
“You’re thinking of something stupid, aren’t you?”
“No, I’m thinking of something serious right now.”
“Stupid of me to even ask.”
Then he plopped down in his seat as usual.
Well, the second half of today’s story, anyway. I need to spend a little more time thinking about Aisha, don’t I?
“You might want to stay awake next time.”
“Hmm? Oh, the test.”
A test return, to be exact.
We don’t go by name; the teachers call us as they want. Thanks to this, Akito was called pretty early by every teacher.
By the way, this guy gets a good score even with this attitude. Basically, he was the type of person who could do well on everything without breaking a sweat.
Akito turned to me as if he remembered something.
“How about we have a little bet for this test?
“I need you to come out with me for something. You up for it? Plus, aren’t you more confident than usual this time with your competition against Takanishi?”
“That’s… well, I see. What are the terms?”
“Add the scores from all five subjects. The loser owes the winner one request.”
“As long as the request isn’t too much.”
“All right, let’s go.”
Akito and I were not that far apart in our original grades. Considering my confidence this time, well, it’s not a bad bet.
And more importantly, we have a type of friendship that allows us to hang out with each other as much as we want. If one wins, he can have the other buy him a drink, and if one loses, he won’t lose that much.
However, I’m more worried about Manami’s result and my competition with Aisa than anything else.
