The Happiness That The Shinigami Gave Me - V1 Chapter 20
Volume 1 Chapter 20
I heard a sudden clacking sound, so I looked up from my desk.
The clock on my desk showed that it was currently 9pm.
I was busy studying for the upcoming exam. There was a problem that I had been struggling to solve and I managed to solve it successfully after going through it a second time.
The sound continued for a while. Out of curiosity, I tried to look for the source of the sound. I found a small eye peering through the gap between the curtains.
I stood up in surprise.
On the other side of the window was the balcony. There was something there, staring at me.
My body tensed up and I braced myself for what was about to come. Then, I heard a familiar sound.
I opened up the curtain in a heartbeat and saw a black cat sitting on the balcony. It seemed like the clacking sound came from this little guy scratching on the window.
“Huh? Aren’t you?”
I recognized the cat from the furless patches in its tail.
A while ago, this was the same cat that brought me to the park where I met Natsuhara-san for the first time. It had only been a few months since then, but it felt like a distant memory for me.
With such a thin body, wouldn’t it feel cold?
Natsuhara-san seemed to be feeding it from time to time, but its condition didn’t seem to get any better.
“…Are you hungry?”
I opened the window and it hopped onto the railing.
It gave me a stare before scratching in the air with one of its paws.
The gesture it made seemed like it beckoned me to come over.
Then, it meowed once before jumping off the balcony.
I panicked and leaned my body over the railing. Suddenly, I heard another meow from below. Huh, so cats could survive jumping from this height?
The cat had safely landed on the yard and stared at me.
What’s wrong with this guy? It gestured me to come closer just now, didn’t it?
Suddenly, an unpleasant feeling rose in my chest.
The sight of the black cat under the darkness felt ominous to me. My heart started to beat faster.
I could feel a sense of urgency in its meow this time.
Right, this is the same cat that brought me to Natsuhara-san back then.
“…Are you going to take me to Natsuhara-san again?”
Didn’t the shinigami tell me that she didn’t have long to live?
The black cat nodded after hearing my words. Or at least, that was what it looked like to me.
Did something happen to Natsuhara-san?!
I grabbed my coat, ran down the stairs, and stormed out of the house.
